PBL Culture

Failte air ais to Blog-Mania! Scottish! Once more, the Weirdo herself! Emily! Thanks blog dude. Today I will be talking about my PBL. This term we are learning about culture, where I come from and the values of my culture as a New Zealand European. First my Grandad (my Dad’s Dad) was born in West Bromwich, England. Meaning the whole of my Dad’s family have European heritage. Which also means the whole of my family are part English. As for my Dad’s mother, her Grandad was born in Ireland meaning as well as being English on my Dad’s side, we are also a tad Irish. Now that’s just my Dad’s side. My Mum’s side is a bit different. Like before from Dad’s side, we came from Europe, but this time, we are a tad Scottish, as well as Irish. My Great-Great-Grandad was born and raised in Scotland and my Great-Grandma was born and raised in Ireland! But my Grandparents from my Mum’s side were born around the South Island of New Zealand. As for our traditions, we are pretty much your typical Kiwi family. On St Patrick’s day, we don’t go crazy with green and we don’t walk around wearing kilts! However, we do enjoy supporting festivities of our British heritage, for example following English Premier League football, particularly Arsenal and Tottenham. But go Aresnal!!

This is one of our family heirlooms. It is a shield my Dad’s Dad (my Grandad) received fighting in the Korean war as a Petty Officer. It has been passed down to my family but my Grandad’s metals belong to my Uncle.
Part of our Irish values, make us Catholic. Part English our values makes us go crazy for football and enjoy the Royal Family. Part of our Scottish values makes us enjoy the unique sounds of bagpipes. But most of all, our Kiwi values makes us “sweet as bro”.

Thanks for reading about my culture! Byeeeee!

My PBL

Welcome back to Blog-Mania (English)! Once more.....Emily!!

Thanks Blog-Mania pep! This term at school we have been doing PBL. If your new to the Blog, PBL is something at school were we are given a question and then we study it and try to figure it out. Our question this term was "How can we use our hands, heart and head to create a healthier me?". From that we branched of learning about Nutrition, Physical Activity, Mindfulness and Brain Science. Then from that we chose a personal question relating to one of those 4 sections and studied it. This is my Finale Product. Enjoy!

Winter Sport 2018

Maliu mai to Blog-Mania! Samoan by the way! Emily is back to tell some more about her exciting happenings at her school! Take it away Em!

Thanks Blog-Mania person! This term something very exciting is about to happen! The Winter Sport Tournament is coming up again (it happens annually)! Everyone from a certain age group and up selects and sport that they would really like to play and also a sport that they would kind-of like to play. This is your 1st and 2nd choice. I put netball first then hockey. I love netball because you can be aggressive but it also requires a lot of hand-eye coordination and skill. I put hockey because I've never played before, and I want to give it a try!

There are trials for each sport and from there A, B and etc teams are selected. After that a group of people from the all the teams go through to a Tournament. Last year I went to that and it was awesome! We played 6 games of netball and we only lost 1! Once the Tournament is over, Thursday Sport starts. Everyone who trialed for anything plays on Thursdays against other schools. Last year I was put in the A Team and played other schools A Teams. It was very fun and at the end of Winter Sport we have a prize giving and 2 people form every single team get voted to win. 1 is called Player's Player. That is the award that is voted to someone by the team. There is also Most Valuable Player which is selected by the coach.

Well that's what I've been up to lately! Hoped you enjoyed this episode of Blog-Mania! See you next time! Byeeee

Update: The Winters Sport Team's were sent out, and I trailed for netball and I got into the A Team! The Tarantulas! Thanks and byeeee!

Thanks Blog-Mania bro! Today we're talking about Book-Week! Book-Week is a week we dedicate to books! Specifically the window display.

How it works is we choose a book a create different creation based around that book. For my class we chose "Harry Potter"! We did all sorts for the window. We made the logos, flying cars, charters, the golden snitch, quotes and way more! After we made all those things we stuck them on a Hogwarts castle and stuck the castle on the window along side other things. This is our finished product:

~ This is the full window!

I hoped you liked it! Rate it down in the comments from a scale of 1 to 10! Make sure to come back for the new upcoming season! Byeeee!

Enjoy!

  • 58 Metres Down 3

“Maybe we could break the cage!” I said to Ivory.
“Oh yeah that’s a good idea! I forget that we were the Incredible Hulk!” yelled Ivory.
“We can get out easily because the lid is open but the whole reason we're down here is because of our selfish crew and of course, the shark. What do shark love to eat?” I asked.
“Us.”
“Other than that!”
“Tuna, seals, all sorts. They also have a good sense of smell.” said Ivory.
“I’ve got it! We can swim up 1-2 metres and lure the shark down. With the air tanks, we can spray them at the shark to make it shut its eyes. Then we can swim around the shark, get on top.”
“And then use the rest of the air tanks to push the shark down while we swim up. At school we swim the 50 metres all the time. But how quickly does the air come out and what is the pressure?”
“Um...I don’t know the speed but the pressure is enough for us to make the shark shut its eyes.”
“So let’s get the shark down.”
“To late….”

To Be Continued...

The last part...

  • Emily:C :)
  • 58 Metres Down 3

Previously on 58 Metres Down:

The shark is swimming closer and closer….to close!
It’s swimming around the cage! Oh Lord help us!
“Quick! Grab the tanks!” screamed Ivory.
“Got ‘em!” I replied.
I sprayed them up at the shark and it’s eyes were starting to shut!
“Quick swim around!” I yelled.
But… the shark stared into my soul! We were at the side of the shark and it was snapping! Snap! Snap! Each one closer than the last!
“Far out!” Ivory screamed.
All we were doing was annoying the shark! Again….snap after snap!
All we did was swim!
He swam 48 metres up and hope was lurking! But snap! Where is Ivory’s arm!
“Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!” screamed Ivory in pain.
The shark has bit her arm of!
“Help! Help!” I screamed!
The blood attracted even more sharks and things weren’t looking up.
Oww! The shark bit me! But what part? I look down in horror….where on earth is my leg!
“Fudge, fudge, fudge!” I screamed in pain.
Hope! Hope!
“Grab on!” yelled the lifeguard.
Ivory grabbed on….but I didn’t.
“Nooo!” screamed Ivory.
What she didn’t realize is that she wouldn’t see me again.
Snap! Ah! There goes my other leg. By this point I just gave up. But then in the shocking turn of events….Ivory let go of the lifeguard. She swam down, grabbed my arm and tried to race up but it was too late… the shark struck at us both with his giant jaws. Goners we were. Again...I have one more question…. Why did Ivory let go?

Comment down below what you would like to see less of or more of! Have a good day! Byeeeee!

Art Time!

Dobrodosili back to Blog-Mania! (Welcome in Croatian!). You guessed it! Emily is here!

Thanks Blog-Mania guy! At school we have been doing Science and Art Rotations! My favourite time was art and I wanted to share it with you! So we had to choose between multiple choices for our design and I chose mini popsicle sticks to do my layout. After we glued them onto a piece of paper and we stuck on tinfoil! We stick it down and we color in the outsides with pastel! We did this to learn about textures! I know this sounds confusing but let me show you the photo!

I put the number 24 because it is my lucky number! Well I hoped you enjoyed this episode! Make sure to come back for more and what kind of art do you like? Let me know in the comments! Byeeeeeee!

A Piece Of S.U.W (Silent Uninterrupted Writing) Part 2

Nua mai to Blog-Mania! (Welcome back in Maori!). You guessed it! Emily is here!

Thanks for that introduction Blog-Mania dude! Today I'm telling you about S.U.... you don't remember? That's ok. Scroll down....you saw it yet? Read it. Don't worry I'll wait. That's S.U.W. I have written another piece of Silent Writing which I really enjoyed writing. I'm still working on it but for now you can read my progress. The story is called 58 Metres Down and is about to girls who plunet to the bottom of the ocean...58 Metres Down. Enjoy!

  • 58 Metres Down

If only I grabbed on...this is a story of me and my friend. We were dolphin swimming but then...let’s just start. I’ve already told too much.
“It’s only 1.5 metres down! It’s not like you’re going to plummet down to Bikini Bottom Ocean and order a Krabby Patty!”. The joke I always made to reassure my friends when I took them dolphin swimming.
“But what if I see a shark while I’m in the cage?” whimpered my friend, Ivory.
“Stop being a wuss. And stop acting like a baby eating a lemon. Plus the instructor is looking after us and we have heaps of air tanks in there to last us 7 days.” I told my friend.
“Well, I’m scared!”
“Ahh!” I yelled as if I was being tortured by someone playing Nickelback and making my phone go flat. “Fine!”
“Thank you!” said Ivory.
“Wuss.” I said in my head.
“Ok! Let’s hurry up and get this over and done with!” groaned Ivory.

We hopped in the cage and then….I heard a snap.
“Did you hear that?” said Ivory.
“No!” I replied quickly. The (meaning the people driving the boat) shut the lid on the cage and said,
“Good Luck!”
“What’s that supposed to mean?!?” yelled Ivory.
“Nothing.” I said. And so we looked around and noticed all different kinds of dolphins. They were beautiful! But another snap…. and this time everyone heard it.
“What was that?!?” screamed Ivory.
“Two bars have snapped!” Now I was getting scared.
“Get us out!” screeched Ivory as she was banging on the lid. Another snap!
“Hurry up!” I yelled.
“It’s stuck!” the drivers screamed out. Then all of a sudden….we fell.

There was a “metre reader” on the cage saying how many metres down we were. It kept on flicking and we couldn’t read it. Finally, we stopped on the sea bottom with a huge THUD!
“How many metres down to you think we are?” Ivory asked worried.
“58 metres down.” I replied in a light voice.
“Come to think about, that krabby patty doesn’t sound too bad!” commented Ivory sarcastically.
“Look! There’s people up there!”. yelled Ivory.

“Hey! Were down here!” I screamed out.
Of course the people didn’t hear us. We’re so deep down it would take a 500 train horns going all at once to get their attention.

The boys that were up there surfing were probably talking to each other like “Totally bro!” and “Look at this narley wave dude!”
Getting their attention would be like trying to get the Grinch to like Christmas!
They surfed away and so did our hope for surviving.
We figured out that a great White Shark snapped the bars but that first snap is still a mystery….anyway it’s final….we had fallen 58 metres down and GW were thirsty…. thirsty for blood.

“What are we going to do! What oh what!” I screamed constantly in my, head.
“Lila, what are going to do?” said a trembling Ivory
“Wait!” I thought, my phone is waterproof! I grabbed my phone and….. No service.
“Great just great!” I said. Finally we heard something….then we saw a fin. “Ivory.” I said quietly.
“There is a great white behind you. DO not freak out.”
“Ahhhh!!!” screamed Ivory.
“So much for staying quiet!” I said under my breath.
The shark bit constantly on the cage. It was obviously dinner time. After constantly snapping away, it gave up.
The shark went away...
But not for good…

To Be Continued….

And then I wrote a Part 2...

Just swim! Just swim” I thought. But then it occurred to me that a freakin' Great White was hunting us down!
“We need to figure out what caused that first snap. It couldn't of been a shark because the cage was too high up at that point. So what could it be?” asked Ivory.
“Well let's think. I was saying stop being a wuss…”
“Which I’m still offended by!”
“Anyway! I was saying stop being a wuss and then if we fast forward the instructor said Good Luck. Maybe he actually meant something and plus when he said it, he had a smirk look on his face.”
“Ya think!” yelled Ivory.
“What if he did something to the cage?”
“But what could he of done? The cage is connected to the boat. He said he couldn’t open the lid. What if that’s it? Said Ivory
“It can’t be because all the other people on the boat tried and couldn’t do it. Even the driver tried. And the driver was a 4 year serving guard. He wouldn’t do that.” I replied.
“But what if he woul..”
“He wouldn’t! Ok!” I snapped back at Ivory.
“Wait...what way does the lid open?” asked Ivory.
“That doesn’t matter.” I responded.
“Just tell me.”
“From the top, you pull and on the inside you push.” I told her.
“What way were all of the people trying to open it?”
“Um...I think they were pushing.”
“Exactly! They all pushed instead of pulling, insuring that we would stay in. They also yelled it’s stuck...try opening the lid.”
I opened the lid...with ease.
“So it was the crew! Wait till my dad finds out about this!”
“If we even get found! But why would they do that. All of them have had over 3 years of experience and would (hopefully) never do that!” yelled Ivory.
“Just think, Just think Lila! What might of caused them to do what they did?”
“Well...my father had recently said that if he let one more person have free dolphin swimming, that he would fire him and he wouldn’t get his month's pay.” I replied.
“That’s just it. He’s probably using us as ransom. He will probably demand that he gets and raise and a promotion or something in exchange for us! Is there a tracking device or GPS on the cage?” Ivory asked.
“Yeah actually. It’s under the cage.”
“And that’s how he will find us if your father agrees to the deals.”
“Wow...so let me get this straight. Our instructor pushed on the lid ensuring we would be stuck. But the shark...maybe he threw in some bait before we went in the cage! Anyway, the shark snapped the bars connecting us to the boat making us fall 58 metres down. There is also a tracking device on the boat so he can use us as ransom. It’s either our lives...or his career. ”
“Pretty much.”
“Now I only have one question...how are we gonna get out?”

To be continued….

And I'm still working on Part 3...

Well, I hoped you enjoyed that and if you didn't read the whole thing I understand. It is looooong! Anyway, what you do it Ivory and Lila's situation? Let me know down in the comments below! Byeeeee!

Step-Out Writing

Welcome back to the 4th episode of Blog-Mania! Thank you so much for coming back! Once more Emily is here with some of her crazy cool writing! Emily, wanna take it away?

I would love to! Hi guys! Today I'm sharing with you some of my writing I did in a writing workshop. For the workshop we have to write a story and then step it out. "Stepping it Out" is when you take a classic story, change it up a wee bit, add some action, singing and dancing and bada~boom A bada~bing! You've got a stepped out story! Since I can't physically show you how I stepped it out I'm going to show you my story! Enjoy!

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Juicy Jane. She lived for juices. Acidic juices, sweetened juices, huge juices, mini juices, full of flavour juices, empty flavoured juices. All sorts! One magical day her mother told her to go of and sell their magic beans because they didn’t grow into a colossal beanstalk. Kind of like jack and the beanstalk.  As she was crossing the road she dropped a few of the beans. She just realized she lost them when she crossed over the wide road, so she ran onto the street to get them but a man grabbed her by the arm and stopped her. “Why did you do that!” “Because you’ld get hit. I see your beans. Do you want to trade for some juice?” “Juice!” said Jane. “I love juice! Of course! Here you go!” “Thank you.” said the man. “But be sure not to drink it.” “But the whole point of juice is to drink it!” “Not this one….” he bolted away. “Strange..” I thought to myself. “Oh well! I mean it’s still juice!” She walked back home.

“Darling.” said my mother. “What did you get?” “I got juice!” “You idiot!” “But mother!” “But nothing!” she grabbed the juice, opened the lid and poured it outside on the failed magic beans. “Now go to your room and think about what you’ve done!”. I ran to my room and cried. But eventually I fell asleep.

The next day I woke up I could hear sirens everywhere and I was wondering what was occurring. I hoped myself out of bed and went outside. “Walkey walkey walkey ah! I’m getting distracted. Let’s look.” I was outside and I was looking at the most hefty, enormous, colossal thing I ever saw….it was a beanstalk! “Mummy!” “Yes?” “How much can we sell it for?” “From the looks of it...I think around 4 big ones!” “What are big ones?” “Millions!” “Yay! Am I a fool now?” “Not at all my dear! If anything you're a genius!” exclaimed mum. “The only thing is we have to move while they cut it down.” “That’s fine! With all the money we have, we could afford to live in a hotel!”

“Excuse me mam, I need to talk to you.” said a constructor. “Ok!” said my mum. I walked away. “The beanstalk is so tall we can’t cut it down. And it’s blocking the whole city's sun view…. But if we destroy your house we will be able to cut it down.” “This is a tough one.” “But if you do agree to you’ll get an extra 3 million for your house. So your total would be getting 7 mil!” “Well….go for it. We will be packed and moved in 2 weeks time!” But little did she know….the constructor was the giant from the beanstalk and there was something in there house he needed to get rid of!

To be continued…...

Thank you for listening in! I will be back soon with Part 2! What do you think the next one will be about? Bye!

A Piece Of S.U.W (Silent Uninterrupted Writing)

Welcome back to the third episode of Blog-Mania! Ka pai for staying in this long! As usual, we are back with Emily! Take it away Emily!

Sweet as Blog-Mania dude! Today I'll be sharing with you a piece of writing I wrote after lunch for S.U.W. It is about how I personally think that jaywalking is a cruel and mean thing to call someone! Here's why....

Back in the day everyone would just walk on the road. You could just walk, anywhere really. Then cars came. No one knew what they were. They just came. The idea came that they were dangerous and they wanted people to keep off the roads so no one got hurt. Now “jay” ment a really really bad word, like if you called someone a jay back then it would be like calling them a bad swear word now! So back on topic, people were throwing riots to get these machines of the road and it got in the paper and the inventors saw it and said “We need something like a name that will tell people to get of the road but not literally. Oh! I’ve got! Jaywalker! Perfect!”. Then they told people, who told other people, who told more people and so on. So from now on they called anyone who walks were no crossing is or just walks on the road in general, they are automatically called a jaywalker! So what I think is that people just thought other people said so why shouldn’t I and that is a bad thing in my world. So that is why I, Emily, think that jaywalking is a rude and cruel thing to call someone.

Thank you for listening in and as always be sure to leave a good rating or feedback in the comments! Bye!

My Treasure Anecdote

Welcome back to Blog-Mania! Emily is here again with some awesome learning she wants to share with you! Emily, do you mind explaining what you're sharing with as today?
Ok course, Blog-Mania narrator! At school we have been learning and studying about our family, and one of the things we had to do was bring in a treasure of yours or your family's and share it and someone in the class would video! After we had shared our treasures we had to write a story about the treasure and it was called an "Anecdote". So, today I am here sharing with you my anecdote! Enjoy!

My Treasure
This is about my favourite book and about my hero, Jake Bailey. The story is about how he fought one of the most aggressive cancers ever known.

Jake Bailey is 20 years old now. When he caught cancer he was only 18 and hadn't even finished high school. The cancer he caught was so bad, he lost over 20 kg just by throwing up and because he couldn't eat because, he had massive tumors where his wisdom teeth used to be in his gum. The tumors in his kidneys were the size of giant grapefruits! He couldn't really feel his face!

This is my favourite part in the book. Picture this: It was the night of his prize giving and he is Head Boy at his school and he wasn’t really up to going but then one of the nurses came in and Jake told her “I’m not going.” then the nurse said “Ok, just as long as you don’t regret it.” and that really got Jake. He decided to go, then he decided not to, then he decided he would and it was all just a big mess. But yet again the nurse said “Ok, just as long as you don’t regret it after.” and he finally decided full stop, he was going. But he looked like a mess, considering he had been in bed for over 2 weeks he hadn't shaved or nothing, so when he went to shave he started throwing up but he kept on shaving because he really wanted to go to the prizegiving.

So once he had done everything and through up a few times, he went to get dressed….but then when he put his suit on he realized that, the suit he was wearing, fit him when he was 20 kg heavier! Nothing fit him, even his shoes didn't but he suckered up and wore the suit. As they were leaving and going down the elevator he started throwing up over and over again and then his mum said “You’re not going. I’m stopping this elevator and we are going back up.” but then Jake stopped her and this is my favourite part, he said “No mum, I am head boy and I am going to this prizegiving no matter what you say. OK?”
